Education can save lives

(Photo - internet)22 September 2014 - If all women in poor countries completed primary education, child mortality would drop by one-sixth saving almost one million lives, the United Nations educational agency today reported highlighting the links between schooling and achieving a new set of sustainable development targets.

21 September 2014 - A Colombian women’s rights group, whose members put their lives on the line to assist survivors of forced displacement and sexual abuse, is this year’s winner of a prestigious award presented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, UNICEF spokesperson Christophe Boulierac emphasized that more than 500 children had died, over 3,350 suffered injuries and many others were secluded at home during the fighting.

The last day of the summer school begins

In the morning we listened to the introduction on peacekeeping, peace operations of United Nations and challenges that peacekeepers are facing when going on a mission abroad prepared by Assistant Professor Janja Vuga, PhD, from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Mr. Blaise Ndamnsah from the Casa of CARA Refugee Centre in Gradisca D'isonzo delivered a lecture on international protection systems, treatment of refugees in European Union and bureaucratic and legal issues. He also introduced the importance of  cultural mediation, which is among his main activities.
