The first day of our Summer School on the United Nations: Youth Competencies for the Challenges of the Globalized World finished with a "global village" event

(Photo - Jana Mahorčič)10 September 2014 - In the morning the conference was opened by Professor Bojko Bučar, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and UNA Slovenia President, and H. E. Mr. Joseph Mussomeli, Ambassador of the USA in Slovenia. Mr. Mussomeli exposed the characteristics of young people nowadays - their capability of strategic thinking, flexibility when using digital technology, innovativeness. He reminded the participants of the summer school that the stereotypes about young people shouldn't affect their willingness and preparedness and joked that youth is ignorant just enough to be brave. He finished with a thought that we should grow but never grow up.

5 September is significant day for United Nations. As world leading organisation it commemorates the International Day of Charity.

Poverty persists in all regions of the world, ‎regardless of their economic, social and cultural situation, particularly in developing countries. United Nations recognize the role of charity and the efforts that are made by various organizations. For this special occasion Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said: „Charity plays a significant role in the work of the United Nations and its agencies. On this International Day, I call on people everywhere to act on the charitable impulse that resides in every human being – to start giving and to keep on giving.“


Crisis in Ukraine – new UN focus

Ebola virus and UN help

United Nations Association of Slovenia organizes the “Summer school on the United Nations: Youth competencies for the challenges of the globalized world” – a 3-days youth conference which will be attended by young activists from Slovenia and abroad. It will be held from 10th until 12th September 2014 at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana.
