Citing economic toll on Palestinians, Ban calls for end to Israeli occupation
6 February 2012 – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today renewed his call for progress in the Middle East peace process, citing the toll taken on the economy and lives of the Palestinians by the Israeli occupation.
African Union: Ban Ki-moon urges respect for gay rights
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has urged African leaders to respect gay rights.
Discrimination based on sexual orientation had been ignored or even sanctioned by many states for too long, Mr Ban told an African Union summit.
Homosexuality is illegal in many African countries - a situation which has drawn increasing criticism from activists and the West.

VIENNA, 27 January (UN Information Service) - One and a half million Jewish children perished in the Holocaust - victims of persecution by the Nazis and their supporters.
Tens of thousands of other children were also murdered. They included people with disabilities… as well as Roma and Sinti.
UN calls for combining energy access with anti-poverty projects in Asia

Libya: UN and Government sign status of mission agreement
10 January 2012 – The United Nations and the Libyan authorities today signed an agreement establishing the legal framework under which the UN mission set up last year to support the country’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts will operate.
The status of mission agreement between the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the Libya’s interim Government lays out the rights, responsibilities and procedures for both signatories, concerning the deployment, presence and safety of UNSMIL operations and personnel in fulfilling the mission’s Security Council-authorized mandate.
